Dental Care
One of the most overlooked areas of healthcare for our animals is their dental health. It may seem ridiculous to brush your dog’s teeth, but that is just what they need! Food that gets caught between the teeth and gums can quickly attract bacteria growth and cause infections that may be difficult to treat if not caught on time. Animals can also suffer from abscessed teeth, gum disease, oral cancers and even rotten teeth. The doctors at Mercy Animal Hospital and their staff are well trained in the areas of animal dentistry and can help get your pet on the path to feeling well! Our staff asks that you be familiar with some of the symptoms of dental issues in your pet. These include:
- Inability to eat
- Decreased appetite
- Whining
- Bad Breath
- Aggression (this is a sign of advanced pain)
If a dental procedure is needed to treat your pet, they will be sedated first by our veterinarian. A staff member will monitor your pet’s breathing and heart rate to make sure they stay stable through the procedure. A tooth extraction and tooth cleaning can all be done within our hospital facility! Once your pet is finished with his procedure the staff members will show you how to care for your pet’s teeth through toothpastes, foods and tasty treats!
